Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca

  • Joe's Pub 425 Lafayette Street New York, NY 10003 United States (map)

Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca, whose vitality, energy, and passion have won accolades around the world, returns for a special limited engagement filled with spectacular dancing, cathartic song, and virtuosic guitar.  Noche Flamenca maintains the essence, purity, and integrity of one of the world's most complex and mysterious art forms, creating powerful performances that radiate off the intimate Joe's Pub stage.  Founded in 1993 by Artistic Director Martin Santangelo and his Bessie award-winning wife Soledad Barrio, who was honored with a 2015 Dance Magazine award, Noche Flamenca is hailed for its authentic performances of one of the world's most complex and mysterious art forms.

Intimo will be a series of intimate theatrical vignettes expanding the boundaries of traditional flamenco. Pieces will include new solos from principal dancer Soledad Barrio and Carlos Menchaca, a spectacular young dancer who recently joined the company, and a new duet with Marina Elana and hip-hop/crump dancer Robert Wilson.

Musicians will include long-time Noche Flamenca guitarists Eugenio Iglesias and Salva de Maria, cajon player David Rodriguez, and electric bass and guitar player Hamed Traore + two singers.

"There has been no company I have been so glad to discover as Noche Flamenca and, above all, its lead dancer Soledad Barrio. I can think of no current ballet star in the world as marvelous as she." - Alastair Macaulay, The New York Times
